Dear Delta: Even if you find Paco I won’t fly with you willingly

I used to love flying Delta, but now I am very disappointed in your airline. I have not complained about the decline in service. I did not make a fuss when my family (whose tickets were all booked at the same time) were scattered all over the plane. I didn’t think anything of is when you changed my flight over 10 times for my September 2009 trip from Indianapolis to Vegas. I didn’t put in a formal complaint when you rebooked that trip making me fly IND to DTW to MSP and then LAS with only 25 minutes on the ground. I simply called and had it changed. I didn’t report the very rude flight attendants on all the legs of the Vegas trip. I didn’t report the flight attendant who yelled at us for having to go to the back of the plane to find over head bin space because she let all the people in the back of the plane put their carry ons in the front. I even talked my travel companion out of calling you and going postal over the most disorganized boarding I have ever suffered through in Vegas and having us run from the far end of the new terminal at DTW to the old Terminal with just about 15 minutes to spare on our connection.

All these things bothered me, and yes they did lead to you losing some business with us. On our IND to SFO trip in March, your fares were lower than Southwest’s, but I was willing to pay a little more to not have to pay the check luggage and I didn’t have to deal with your rude on flight staff. I was annoyed enough to go with another carrier for a small price difference, but I was still willing to fly with you.

That has now changed with the who Paco debacle.

Here is the bottom line:

Based on your lame excuse:
1) Your staff failed to put the dog on the correct flight
2) You assured the owner your staff would care for Paco
3) While in his care the dog “escaped”
4) You failed to contact the owner directly
5) You initially offered $200 towards a future Delta flight
6) You do not seem to be making any attempt to find the dog
7) How do you lose a dog in an airport with security and cameras?
8) If you had put the dog on the flight, he never could have “escaped” this is your fault and it doesn’t make sense that you aren’t doing more to find him and make things right.

Honestly, I believe something else happened to poor Paco, and your staff knows the real story.

This shows me that your standards have fallen even lower than I had noticed. I refuse to book a Delta flight again. If I am booked on one, I will refuse to check my luggage. If this is how your treat someone when you lose a living breathing part of his family (he had just rescued the dog, but bonds can be built quickly) why should I pay you extra when that payment does not guarantee my bag will be at my destination and you have proven you have little to no respect for even living items you lose?
