Travel Tip of the Day 5/14: Mapquest

This applies to short trips and full out road trips alike.  Do not put all of your faith in Mapquest, or any other online direction source.  Doing this is almost as foolish as putting your faith in Microsoft Word’s Spell Check.  All online programs are created by humans, humans make errors.  For example, if you put in the address for Ivy Tech’s Lawrence Campus and try to follow those directions, you will never get there.  The directions may be correct, but it may also take you through every small town and stop light imaginable.  Even if the directions are correct and sound, they do not take construction into consideration.  yes the fastest way to Downtown Chicago from Indianapolis might be to take I-65 to I-90, but if I-65 is closed at I-80 (south of I-90) you now have the pleasure of taking the detour through the scenic oil refineries in Gary.  This is not pleasant and it may add time to your trip.  Always have a plan-b, and expect the unexpected.  Look at multiple online sites and plan your time for the worst case scenerio.
